Mayor of Canterbury, Ald. Schofield, is being taken for a ride as the Wiley Park cycling track. The "villains" are former Olympians, Russell Mockridge (left) and Lionel Cox. These two and topliners from other States will be contesting the Australian champion championships at the track tonight, Friday night and Saturday night. From the start, Ald. R. J. Schofield had said all the talk about the plant was "fallacious rubbish." He was right. Over the years the council sought technical help from the C.S.I.R.O. and financial help from the State and Federal Governments, to no avail. Ald. Schofield, said, The ratepayers are lucky to be rid of this huge "white elephant". October 27, 1949.
