Kindle Olympic Flame From Midnight Sun -- Pekka Niemi holds aloft one of two Olympic flames, after it was kindled by the light of the Midnight Sun in a tiny village in Finnish Lapland. Niemi later ran with the flame to the Swedish-Finnish border where it was joined with an Olympic torch, lighted in Greece. Both were en route to Helsinki for the opening of the 15th Olympiad. July 10, 1952. (Photo by AP Wirephoto).
