Medan -- Aerial view of Modan, capital city of Sumatra, near the north-east coast, on the Deli River. The harbour of Modan is Belawan - Deli, a little distance away. The rich crops of the famous Deli tobacco, rubber, tea and copra were exported from here. The prewar population was 47,000, of which 3,500 were Europeans. June 09, 1955.
