60 Second Rescue At Sea -- One minute after his Navy Corsair fighter plane plunged into the Sea of Japan during takeoff from fast carrier USS Boxer, Lt Jg Oliver D. Droege, USN of 636 W. 88th St., Kansas City, Mo. Was back on Deck in good shape and ready to flight again. In this remarkable series of pictures, alert Navy photographers in Boxer have recorded what is nearly a second by second photo story of the rescue. It will take you longer to look at the pictures then it did to rescue Lt. Droege. Here, caught in the prop wash of the plane just launched, Droege fights to keep the Corsair's nose up. The Boxer, meanwhile, plows forward in excess of 30 miles on hour or more than 20 knots. May 19, 1951. (Photo by Official US Navy Photograph)
