Destroyer Launched in Boston -- The U.S. Navy destroyer Gwin, 1,600 tons, getting its first taste of water as it was launched at the Charlestown Navy yard in Boston on May 25th. The new destroyer was named after Lieut. Commander William Gwin, U.S.N., who was mortally wounded in an attack on Haines Bluff in 1862 while in command of a naval division. May 26, 1940.
