U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Sinks German U-Boat, Captures 33 Of Crew -- As U.S. Marines with fixed, bayonets stand guard, 33 officers and men of a German submarine are taken off the U.S. Coast Guard cutter Icarus, which sank their raider off the American East Coast. The cutter encountered the U-boat while on Atlantic patrol, damaged the German vessel with depth charges and finished her off with ***** when she came to the surface. The 33 survivers, including the submarine's commander, were picked up and brought to U.S. Navy base where they are shown being lined up to be marched to their guard. July 12, 1943.
