Modern Art Helps Recovery of Child Patients. -- A nurse at Dr. Yudkin's hospital in Highgate, Nurse B. Hanley, holds up a little patient Crisilla Koutas (Czech nationality) to study one of the mobiles, designed by Kenneth Martin, which hangs from the ceiling of the ward. Dr. Simon Yudkin, who runs a childrens hospital at Highgate has installed several mobiles in his young patients wards. A mobile is a fairly recent development in the field of modern art and is a shape constructed from matal and wire, which is hung from the ceiling and left to revolve, Dr. Yudkin says that these mobiles soothe the children and keep them quiet. To show in a practical manner this aspect of modern art in relation to society, Dr. Yudkin has arranged an Exhibition at his hospital, from September 25th. to October 15th., when it is hoped to prove how the mobile helps to create an environment which enlivens and humanises the ward and delights the eye of the patient.
