Not Bad. But Them Pigeons ... Blimey! - The sophisticated, knowledgeable critics saunter up and with studied indulgence, form a grout round the artist, who bends carefully over his work on the Thames embankment. He takes up a bright yellow chalk. A disapproving "Tch tch" almost persuades him to put it down. But he perseveres and deftly shades in a duck's beak. His river and meadow scone is almost finished. A critic screws up his eyes and looks shrewdly at the ducks. He turns to a companion. "Charlie", he says, his voice acid and scornful, "I don't know about you but I ain't never seen a pigeon with a bright yellow beak before." March 06, 1951.
