Chiswick Barge Owners Fight Council -- Mrs. Guy Harris hanging out the washing assisted by her 5 years old son, Christopher, aboard the Ladye. The Thames bare dwellers of Chiswick Mall are fighting an attempt by Brentford and Chiswick Town Council to make them pay rates, and may obtain legal aid in their dispute. They argue that their homes are on the river, and that they get no services from the council. Among these "barges," as they call themselves, is an ex-Wing Commander, Mr. Guy Harris, who lives on the "Ladye," a converted barge, with his wife and two sons. October 15, 1946. (Photo by Fox).
