The Coronation Stone Stolen -- An official of Westminster Abbey is seen inspecting the Coronation chair in the Abbey, this morning, Dec. 27. The stone used to rest below the seat. Note the splintered left edge of the seat. This damage was caused when the stone was prised from beneath the seat. Just above the tail of the gilded lion (left) have been scratched the initials 'J.F.S'. The Coronation stone was stolen early on chair in Westminster Abbey, where it had rested for 650 years. The stone, of yellow sandstone and weighing over four hundred weights, was brought to England by King Edward I, who seized it from the Abbey of scone, near Perth, Scotland. December 27, 1950.
