Alistair Roberts aged 22, doesn't only design clothes for the theater - he sews them together and acts in them as well. A Designing Young Man With - Upstairs at North Sydney's Independent Theatre is a small room hung with cloaks and costumes, hats and doublets, gold gowns, green gowns, uniforms and breeches; it also houses a sturdy treadle machine, and, most days of the week, 22-year-old Alistair Roberts. He, if he wanted to, could hang on most of the clothes in the room a card "Designed by Alistair Roberts, made by Alistair Roberts," and-on some of them -"Acted in by Alistair Roberts." Because fair-haired Alistair has combined designing, stitching and acting for many years now-and is doing very, very nicely at each. April 25, 1949.
