Frogman Scientist -- Frogman Scientist Frederick (Ricky) Grimes makes underwater adjustment to a model before it is put in motion at the Hydrodynamic Laboratories to-day. The Admiralty's new million ?1 million Hydrodynamic Research Laboratories-built principally to aid design of underwater craft and weapons-were opened to the Press at Teddington, Middlesex, to-day (Friday). Most spectacular item of equipment is the 60-ton rotating beam, which can move models through the water at speeds up to 100 knots. The beam, with an over all span of 122 feet, swings around the two largest taper roller races yet made. November 18, 1955. (Photo by Reuterphoto).
