Sabotage In The "Queen Elizabeth"? -- The scene just after the fire had started in the liner, showing firemen fighting the outbreak from an escape. Home office officials have been called in following the mysterious fire on board the "Queen Elizabeth" at Southampton today, Friday. The C.I.D. have set up a head-quarters on board. One of the crew gave the alarm when he saw smoke pouring out of the liner's hospital section (to which the fire was confined). The city's whole fire force helped by engines from other districts put out the blaze after a two hours' battle with the flames, handicapped by dense, acrid smoke. March 08, 1946.
