Fred Robins Only Barber In Clovely Devon - The air in the bar of the New Ian was filled with voices and tobacco smoke, suddenly a shout rang out. Everyone heard it. There was a horrid silence as holidaymakers and local fisherman alike, swung round to the clock. It sounded so much like "Time gents please", in fact that one old fisherman drained in one gulp a pint he had intended to last him half an hour. "Don't ever do that again young Fred" said he as he realised whom the shout had had called out not Time gents please", but "Next gent please". August 16, 1949. (Photo by Daily Mirror).
