USS Sangamon Survives Suicide Attacks -- Knocked down by deadly anti-aircraft fire just as it seemed certain to crash into its target, a Jap suicide plan plummets down past the catwalk to plunge into the sea. This was one of several Jap suicide plane attacks on the escort carrier USS Sangamon in the Ryukyus on May 4, 1945.
