Rocket Takes Off On Record Flight -- A Navy Viking II rocket takes off from the White Sands, N.M., proving ground last May 24 on what the defense department says is a record climb to a height of 158 miles above the Earth. The department said a camera installed in the rocket took the highest photographs of the Earth ever made.
