Tuatara (Sphenodon punctatus). A repeat in length which still exists in small numbers, mostly off the North Auckland East Coast, Bay of Strait. Tuataras once North Island mainland, but have long disappeared. The tuatara is not a ***** the sole survivor of a group of a ancient reptiles ***** fossil Dinosaurs. It is truly a living fossil, one of ***** remarkable instances of the survival of a group which ***** extinct many million of years ago. July 18, 1949.
