The new President of East Germany, Herr Wilhelm Pieck and Vladimir Semenovich Semyonov, Ambassador in the Soviet Military Administration. Friedrich Wilhelm Reinhold Pieck (3 January 1876 - 7 September 1960) was a German communist politician who served as the chairman of the Socialist Unity Party from 1946 to 1950 and as president of the German Democratic Republic from 1949 to 1960. Vladimir Semenovich Semyonov (16 February 1911 - 18 December 1992) was a Soviet diplomat and famous for his military administration in Eastern Germany during the Soviet occupation after World War II. He was instrumental in the creation of GDR, and served as the first Soviet ambassador to East Germany.
