British Legion Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall during the National Anthem. When the newly formed British Legion adopted the poppy as its emblem of Remembrance and held the first British fundraising Poppy Day on 11th November, 1921, it was tapping into a strong emotional connection between the poppy and Remembrance that veterans' organisations elsewhere had made, inspired by McCrae's poem.
