The United States Marine Corps War Memorial (Iwo Jima Memorial) in Arlington County, Virginia, USA, just across the Potomac River from Washington DC. It was inspired by an iconic photograph of six United States Marines raising the US flag on Mount Suribachi, during the Battle of Iwo Jima in WWII, taken by Joe Rosenthal of the Associated Press on 23 February 1945.
