Skull of a Paranthropus boisei (Australopithecus boisei), discovered in 1959 by Mary Leakey at the Olduvai site in Kenya. P. boisei is an extinct species of hominid that lived in East Africa during the Pleistocene epoch from about 2.4 until about 1.4 million years ago. It forms part of the human evolutionary tree; although a divergent branch to that which led to modern humans.
