A century ago, most of the houses in the old town, if they were not actually Inns or Taverns, sold ale. Mr. S. Harris, (hence Harris\' Lane), father of High Bailiff Harris, ran a drapers shop where the Clarendon is now, (same building,) on the Quay. The Mahogany Bar was at its rear.
