5053549 South side of Almshouse Lane, Douglas, Isle of Man, 1932-34 (b/w photo) by Frowde, John James (1868-1946); Manx National Heritage (Isle of Man); (add.info.: On the back of this photograph John James Frowde writes, "Left. Finishing the removal of the bottom houses (S. Side) Almshouse Lane. The two old almshouses in the picture still intact with the roofless Lewthwaite\'s Place showing in the rear. S. Matthew\'s Wardens want more for these two old cottages than the Corp\'n feel willing to pay. Case for arbitration no doubt. Between the rear of the Almshouses & that of those in Lewthwaite\'s Court there is a space of not much more than three feet, if that. The drain pipes (2.12.32) lie exposed in that narrow space. How they were ever laid is a puzzle. Up to now, a picture has been impossible. N. aspect & in shadow when I am free."); by Manx National Heritage .
