5052971 Spittal\'s house, Spittal\'s Court, Douglas, Isle of Man, 1932-34 (b/w photo) by Frowde, John James (1868-1946); Manx National Heritage (Isle of Man); (add.info.: On the back of this photograph John James Frowde writes, "Mid-winter. This print is included, more than anything else, to indicate the fact that Spittal\'s lofty house, at the rear, is of a much later type, and period, than no. 4. Later probably but not as much as I had thought. No. 4 built 1782. Spittal\'s as in 1933 in 1821. Spittal\'s takes out in height what the older house did in width and depth. It is fairly evident that the earlier house, which this of Spittal\'s superseded [sic], was of much smaller size than its successor, which, narrow on the Lane, spreads out to a rear width of half as much again as its front diameter, or rather, breadth."); by Manx National Heritage .
