5052882 Senna Road, Douglas, Isle of Man, 1932-34 (b/w photo) by Frowde, John James (1868-1946); Manx National Heritage (Isle of Man); (add.info.: On the back of this photograph John James Frowde writes, "Senna Road; one of the best examples of a charmingly broken roof-line in the older town. Mr J.G.Kneen has no suggestion regarding the derivation of the name. In 1935, Mr Fred Leach told me that in conversation with a very old man who had lived in the vicinity all his life, as also father before him, the old man said that in his father\'s early days, the top house in Frederic Street was occupied by a local man who had married a Cumberland woman. This house, and the next below, were the only two houses in the \'big garden\' which extended all over the Chester Street and Wellington Square area. There is a village named Senna in Cumberland, and F.L. has the idea she would probably call her house \'Senna\' if she hailed from it. Just as Manx folk in England with their Greebas, Coldens etc. Senna Rd includes the back of this house."); by Manx National Heritage .
