5052406 No. 5 New Bond St, Douglas, Isle of Man, 1932-34 (b/w photo) by Frowde, John James (1868-1946); Manx National Heritage (Isle of Man); (add.info.: On the back of this photograph John James Frowde writes, "No 5 New Bond St, the two adjoining shops in centre. These were incorporated many years ago, the one staircase to the upper floors, and a quaint one, serving both houses. The ground floor room of the house on R was wainscotted all round from floor to ceiling or nearly so, and the panels were plain save for an incised groove as sketch (in margin). The building was at one time an eating house, kept by one Harrison and he cut a piece out of the panelling to provide a serving hatch. In the shuttered shop, the wood seemed oak to me: but I learned from Mr Clague, builder, that it was stained pine and riddled with woodlice. Harrison is mentioned in Brown\'s 1880 Directory as at this address." Additional note: "Thwaite\'s I of M 1883 - No 5 then an eating house - Crowe - a pleasure boat proprietor."); by Manx National Heritage .
