Illustration of the Ikaria wariootia bilaterian. This worm-like animal is the earliest bilaterian to be discovered and lived over 550 million years ago in South Australia. Ikaria warioota bilaterian measured between 2 and 7 millimetres long and burrowed in sand on the ocean floor.
