Portrait of Noapeh, an Assiniboine Indian and Psihdja-Sahpa, a Yanktonan Indian. Noapeh, on the left, is wearing an antelope horn headdress and beaded shirt with a large quilled rosette on the front and is holding a set of bow and arrows. Psihdja-Sahpa is wearing a Buffalo hide skin, beaded hair ornamentation and gold bands worn above his elbows. In 1836 Maximilian commissioned Bodmer to create illustrations to accompany the text of his atlas documenting their travels.
