Mast cells in human pineal gland, light micrograph. Mast cells appear quite frequently in the pineal connective tissue septa, which can sometimes be abundant. Although it is a low magnification micrograph, the mast cells can be seen as oval red cells in the cytoplasm. The significance it may have for pineal function is unknown.
