Jean-Francois Chardon was a prison acquaintance visited by Lacenaire at his lodgings in Passage du Cheval Rouge, Paris where he stabbed him in the back, his accomplice Avril finishing him off with a hatchet, while Lacenaire killed Chardon\'s mother using a shoemaker\'s awl. They were both executed by guillotine. In Dostoevsky\'s Crime and Punishment, Raskolnikov\'s crime was based on Lacenaire\'s.).
