1578324 Woodcut depicts the early process of paper making; (add.info.: Woodcut depicts the early process of paper making. The raw materials would be placed in a trough to be macerated by hammers operated by a water-wheel. It would then be mixed with water in a vat by a \'vatman\'. The Vatman would then use moulds to form thin spongy sheets. Wooden screw-press the sheets are pressed in piles of 144 and separated by layers of the felt the paper is then hung to dry.
