1213072 Sunlight, Burnham Beeches (oil on canvas) by Mostyn, Thomas Edwin (1864-1930); 152.3x101.8 cm; Laing Art Gallery, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, UK; (add.info.: Burnham Beeches is a large wood near London. Beech trees come into leaf in April, and Tom Mostyn probably painted this scene in late spring or early summer. He has shown sunshine filtering through the leaves, breaking up the scene into a mosaic of colour. Blue shadows on the trees increase the sense of colour and light in the picture. Mostyn often painted on a large scale to create a feeling that the landscape is surrounding the viewer. As in many of his pictures, he has used an approach influenced by French Impressionist style of many years before.); 穢 Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums; English, out of copyright.
