Prominent in the first two volumes are the writings of Fernando de Alva Ixtlilxochitl (c.1568/1580-1648), a direct descendant of Ixtlilxochitl I and Ixtlilxochitl II, rulers of Texococo, and of Cuitl獺huac, the penultimate ruler of Tenochtitlan. Most of Volume Three was written by Domingo Francisco de San Ant籀n Mu簽籀n Chimalpahin Quauhtlehuanitzin (1579-1660), a Nahuatl historian who also claimed to be a descendant of Aztec rulers.
