Development of the thyroid gland, light micrograph. 0.5 micrometre thick semithin section of plastic-embedded material stained with toluidine blue. The thyroid parenchyma is forming cell cords in which the follicles have not yet been individualized and differentiated. Some cells with highly stained cytoplasm appear in the thickness of the cords. They are parafollicular cells. Connective tissue septa with abundant capillaries remain among the cords.
