Adrenal gland cortex, light micrograph. One of the most striking characteristics of the steroid-secreting cells of the adrenal cortex is the presence of abundant lipid droplets in their cytoplasm. This image shows the fat droplets in the cells of the zona fasciculata of the adrenal cortex. The drops fill the entire cytoplasm. The nucleus, stained by haematoxylin, remains in the centre of the cell. Freezing microtome section with Sudan III stain. Nuclear contrast with haematoxylin.
