Odaka flood plain Fukushima Prefecture, Japan. On 11th March 2011 a magnitude 9.0 earthquake 130 kilometres off this coast caused a devastating tsunami. The tsunami damaged the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power station, leading to the meltdown of three of the nuclear reactors and a leak of radioactive material. Of the 463 farm houses located on this floodplain, 381 were completely destroyed by the tsunami and the rest had to be removed. More than 250 people lost their lives. Photographed in March 2020.
