The projections from the surface are fungiform papillae. Within the the lateral papilla walls are taste buds (light ovals). Beneath the surface is connective tissue (blue) containing mucus glands (pink). At bottom are muscle fibres (red). Magnification: x40 when printed at 15cm tall.
