All the braces in this group were made by Marples at his Spring Lane works between 1853 and 1856. The brass casting is tapered for greater strength. MARPLES PATENTEE / 67 / SPRING LANE / SHEFFIELD?? and on the lower front plate: ???y Her Majesty??? Royal Letters Patent / WILLIAM MARPLES SOLE MANUFACTURER/ OF THE ULTIMATUM BRACE / SHEFFIELD??
