476203 Relief depicting the Victory of King Shapur I over Philip the Arab and Emperor Valerian (limestone) by Persian, (3rd century); Naqsh-e Rustam, Iran; (add.info.: Shapur I the Great (241- 272 AD) was the second Sassanid King of the Second Persian Empire. King Shapur defeated both Roman Emperors Philip the Arab (c. 204 ??249) and Valerian (c.195-c.264). In this scene Philip the Arab is seen kneeling before King Shapur while he clasps the hands of Valerian who hides his hand in his sleeve in an act of submission. This relief is found at the Naqsh-e Rustam archeological site, about 12km northwest of Persepolis in Iran.); Persian, out of copyright.
