473871 On the Spey (pencil & w/c on paper) by Neatby, Edward Mossforth (1888-1949); 38.2x28.3 cm; Laing Art Gallery, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, UK; (add.info.: The River Spey runs through attractive Scottish Highlands\' landscape, and was painted by many artists. Simple outlined shapes in purple, russet brown and green establish the solidity of the landscape in this view. At the same time, a decorative quality is produced by the curving lines and clear blocks of colour. The picture was probably painted around 1935, as Edward Neatby exhibited a Scottish scene in London the following year. He lived in London and later in Harrogate. ); 穢 Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums; British, out of copyright.
