Simple outlined shapes in purple, russet brown and green establish the solidity of the landscape in this view. At the same time, a decorative quality is produced by the curving lines and clear blocks of colour. The picture was probably painted around 1935, as Edward Neatby exhibited a Scottish scene in London the following year.
