In this portrait, the delicate skin tones of her face are set off by soft grey washes, subtly varied in shade. A fluid, black brushstroke along the edge of her face emphasises the features, and continues downwards to suggest the outline of the body. Carefully controlled tonal relationships were features of most of McEvoy\'s work.
