Scott. Eakins based Spinning and Knitting on two earlier watercolors, Homespun and Seventy Years Ago, and in 1883 sent the plaster models to Scott, intending to have the works ultimately carved in stone. However, disputes over cost eventually led Scott to decline the panels.
