KAB76947 Christ handing the keys to St. Peter, from the main niche in the south ambulatory, 5th or 7th century (mosaic); Santa Costanza, Rome, Italy; (add.info.: The mosaic depicts the Traditio Clavium, in which Christ hands over the keys to the kingdom of heaven to St. Peter (Matthew 16:9). Christ is shown with a beard and seated on a globe as Pantocrator. One of the first examples in Christian art of Christ being portrayed in the same way as the emperor or royalty.
