Carl Clarence Kiess (1887-1967, left), US astronomer and physicist, and Frank Bowers Littell (1869-1951, right), US astronomer, on board the dirigible USS Los Angeles on 24th January 1925 to observe the total solar eclipse. The USS Los Angeles was carrying a 46-inch (1.2-metre) camera to photograph the eclipse.
