American physicists George Robert Carruthers (right, born 1939) and Herbert Friedman (left, 1916-2000), looking at a spectrograph designed by Carruthers. Carruthers is best known for inventing the ultraviolet camera, or spectrograph used by NASA in the Apollo 16 flight in 1972.
