Gallbladder mucosa, light micrograph. The mucous layer of the gallbladder is formed by a simple columnar epithelium supported by a connective tissue lamina propria. This layer has very irregular folds that, depending on the cutting plane, can appear as rounded or oval formations, similar to glands, apparently separated from the lumen.
