Ummerstadt is (2019) the smallest town in Thuringia. The historic old town of Ummerstadt, with its many half-timbered houses, is a listed building. The market square at the upper end of which is the birthplace of Friedrich Konrad Muller is particularly worth seeing. Muller, who called himself 'Muller von der Werra', is the author of many patriotic poems and songs.
