Arrest of Leander Starr Jameson (1853-1917), illustration. Jameson, a British Colonial Administrator for the British South Africa Company, had led a raid against the South African Republic over the New Year of 1895-1896. The raid, known as the Jameson Raid, was intended to incite the uprising of British expatriate workers, but failed. Jameson was arrested by the Boers and sent back to Britain for trial.
