Stratospheric research balloon that carried Belgian physicist Max Cosyns (1906-1998) and his student Neree van der Elst to an altitude of 16,000 metres on 18th August 1934. The balloon was designed by the Swiss-Belgian physicist Auguste Piccard (1884-1953). During the flight Cosyns took measurements of currents in the stratosphere and undertook research on cosmic rays.
