Natchez people of the Mississippi, 1840s. 19th-century illustration of a scene inside a hut of the Natchez, an indigenous people from the lower reaches of the Mississippi in the USA. Artwork published in Paris in 1849, in the novella 'Rene' by Francois-Rene de Chateaubriand. This semi-autobiographical novella tells the story of a Frenchman Rene, who travels to North America and lives and dies among the Natchez people.
